 About WIA Youth Mountainland

WIA is an acronym for Workforce Investment Act. This act was passed by Congress to help youth ages 14-21 with education and employment. The program is funded through the Department of Workforce Services. The program has been in existence for almost five years and we currently serve 400 youth. We serve youth living in Wasatch, Summit, and Utah Counties. We help youth with education and employment. In order to qualify, all youth must have at least 4 priority points (refer to apply page for more information on priority points).

For the education portion, we assist youth in completing their high school diploma, GED, or college. We help youth who have dropped out, graduated, and those currently in school. Depending on each specific case, we may have funding to help pay for the following: tutors, packets, school fees, tuition, and books.

For the employment portion, we have the capability of setting up job shadows, internships, and apprenticeships. Some of the youth are hired on with an employer after the internship is completed. If the youth are not hired by the employer, we encourage them to add the experience to their resume and search for a job. We also help pay for classes and training (mechanics, CNA, medical assisting, etc). We often help the youth with resumes and job searches.
